Post-holiday layoffs lead to spike in Staten Island's unemployment rate

Staten Island's unemployment rate in January remained virtually unchanged, compared to the same time last year, but there was a steep increase between December and January because of post-holiday layoffs, according to statistics released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor.
